Intuitive Painting (using fingers, sponges and painting knives) - April - May 2016

This is an exciting four week open medium course with an open theme where artists have the freedom to experiment by using their fingers, sponges or painting knives to create intuitive works of art.  In truth nearly all of the artists approached the first week with some trepidation.  Their fears that the course may be childlike or too basic were soon put aside when I showed them the relatively high standard of finger paintings from a previous course.  I was confident in their ability to surpass the work of the previous group and they proved this with the fantastic paintings they created which are shown in this blog post.

Week One: This was a week of experimenting with all three methods: fingers, sponges and painting knives. At the beginning of the class I demonstrated the various ways you can use parts of your hand to create different marks.  I then demonstrated how to use natural and man-made sponges.  We then moved onto various painting knives.  They were given the following handout:

In my next blog post I will share with you the sponge paintings from this week's class.  Thank you to all the wonderful artists who allowed me to share their work and a big thank you also to Malai and Kevin.

My next course this term is due to commence Friday 3rd June 2016 from 10.00 to 12.00 for three weeks at Northwood WI Hall.  This will be primarily used as a workshop for artists to bring unfinished work along for guidance and tutoring whilst they complete them.  If you would like to join the course please use the blog contact form below.

Happy Painting!

Lee
